1st CULCABOCK
Friendly opening par 4 with generous fairway.
Tip:- don't be greedy off the tee.
2nd QUARRY
Clever little par 3 all the trouble is short and left
with difficult frontal bunkers.
Tip:- take enough club from the tee.
3rd DRAKIES
Short par 5 but well tree lined left and right. Good
tee shot can set you up for a birdie, but beware out of bounds looms
tight left and rear of the green.
Tip:- avoid bunker 20 yards short right of the green.
4th WHINS
Demanding par 4 (5 for the ladies) because of
its length and narrow entrance to the green. Having played a good tee
shot you may still have to settle for dropping a shot.
Tip:- important to avoid the double bunkers on the
right which encroach half way across the hole
5th PUMP
Another short par 5, great possibility for
birdie.
Tip:- you must avoid the bunker off the tee fairway
right.
6th WYVIS
Short par 4, but tricky. Tee shot is
blind and the approach to the green is over water.
Tip:- select a club for 220 yards maximum.
The burn is 285 yards off the tee. Favour right of centre and allow for
a considerable forward roll. Try to achieve 80 yard approach shot
to allow maximum spin control.
7th SPION KOP
Fantastic par 3 typical target golf hole.
Tip:- club up as it is easy to be short on uphill
target.
8th MEADOWS
Classsic dog leg to the left with water on the right
(tee shot for ladies over water) tight well-bunkered green with out of
bounds 3 yards left of the green
Tip:- try to position your tee shot on right side of
the fairway to open up the green, be careful not to run out of fairway.
9th KELLYS COPSE
Another demanding par 3 over water with a difficult
bunker front right.
Tip:- balls landing front right will catch severe
slope :-so club up!
10th KINGSMILLS
Good par 4. Great driving hole.. Well
positioned bunker off the tee which must be avoided if you are to reach
the green in par. Out of bounds skirts the full length of the
hole.
Tip:- favour right side of fairway but be aware of
out of bounds tight left of green with approach shot.
11th SEVEN SISTERS
Classic par 4 with gentle dog leg left to right.
Perfectly positioned bunker on right side of fairway. Big driving hole.
Tip:- avoid bunker right with a sensible tee
shot through club selection, even if it makes your 2nd
shot club selection longer. It is easier to make par from a pitch and
putt than when recovering from a fairway bunker
12th KESSOCK BRIDGE
Fantastic par 4 off the medal tee. Whins and
trees on right hand bank with tall poplars on left side of fairway.
Tip:- play conservatively off forward tee position as
fairway narrows with left hand poplars encroaching. Off medal tee driver
is the only club.
13th DIRIEBUGHT
Good par 3 with well bunkered approach.
Tip:- be careful to avoid encroaching poplar trees to
left, club up.
14th MIDMILLS
Our most demanding par 4 (5 for the ladies) long dog
left to right with out of bounds all the way down on the right.
Tip:- safe line is left of large tree 100yards off
tee but then becomes difficult par. Tiger line is over right
side of tree with fade. High risk but high reward hole.
15th CURLING POND
Another target golf par 3 hole, especially off the
tiger tee. Bank and bunkers left with 5-foot drop to pathway right.
Long narrow green.
Tip:- accurate tee shot required. No safe side here
just trust your swing. Tough hole.
16th LEYS
Blind tee shot. Medium length par 4 with generous
fairway.
Tip:- favour left side of the fairway off the tee. Do
not fall victim to the steep slope at the front of the green. Club up.
17th RIDGE
Short par 4 one of the few easier holes on the back 9
but still tricky with bunkers out of sight just over the crest of the
hill on the right.
Tip:- important to see pin position on green in
relationship to bunkers. Narrow entrance, worth a walk to the top of the
hill.
18th DEOCH AN DORUIS
Long par 4 to bring you home (5 for the ladies)
demanding tee shot with well bunkered approach shot. Testing hole when
into a north east breeze
Tip:- left centre gives you the best approach
but beware of three strategically well placed bunkers on left of
fairway.
